A graduate of the École Centrale de Paris (1984), he holds a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from Paris-Saclay University (1987) and a master’s degree in psychology from Paris VIII University (2002). Laurent began his career at Schlumberger, where he worked for 23 years in various R&D roles in France and China, focusing in particular on CO₂ storage solutions.
In 2011, he shifted his focus to energy transition consulting, notably by co-founding Actys-BEE and working at ENEA Consulting. His expertise lies in hydrogen, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), as well as the development of decarbonization roadmaps. With a longstanding interest in psychology, he also works on the societal acceptability of underground CO₂ storage.
In 2019, he joined the CNRS as Deputy Director in charge of innovation, commercialization, and industrial relations at the National Institute of Sciences of the Universe (CNRS-INSU).
Passionate about sharing his knowledge, he regularly gives lectures and training sessions, and teaches at several institutions in France (Centrale Supelec, IFP School, etc.) and at National Central University in Taiwan.
He is currently a research associate in psychology at the University of Rennes 2. In 2025, he received the CNRS Medal of Honor.
